Readington Township is seeking a full-time, self-motivated, and highly organized individual

to serve as Administrative Assistant to the Administration Office/Deputy Registrar. Potential

inclusion of board secretary in 2027. Certified Municipal Registrar (CMR) preferred or

willingness to obtain CMR upon hire within 30 days. Notary preferred. This position serves

as the principal point of contact for the reception window and provides administrative

support to the Administration Office.

Responsibilities include maintaining and processing vital records, including births, deaths,

marriages, and civil unions, in accordance with New Jersey State regulations, while

providing assistance to residents and outside agencies, issuing certified copies and

licenses, managing the operations of the administration office window, providing

administrative support to the Clerk’s Office, assisting the public, data entry, and

maintaining files and records, performing general clerical duties such as managing mail,

correspondence, and office operations, performing additional duties as assigned to

support Township operations.

Municipal or related experience preferred. Qualifications include proficiency in Microsoft

Office, strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills, ability to work

independently, multitask effectively, and maintain confidentiality. Salary range: $50,000 –

ASSISTANT ZONING OFFICER, TOWN OF WESTFIELD

ZONING OFFICER, CITY OF HOBOKEN

The City of Hoboken is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of full-time Zoning Officer. Within the Department of Community Development, the Zoning Officer would review building code permit applications for zoning applications to ensure compliance with state, county, and local zoning law compliance. Successful candidates must be able to apply local ordinances, carry out enforcement and conduct field inspections, prepare zoning permits, examine site plans, permit applications, and Planning Board, and Zoning Board of Adjustment submissions.

Note: This position is subject to Civil Service examination requirements. The selected candidate may be appointed on a provisional basis and will be required to successfully pass a Civil Service examination when it is scheduled. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities

Enforce all ordinances related to land use and zoning within the City

Review working plans and final construction documents for compliance with federal, state, county, and local regulations

Evaluate applications for building permits and route those requiring review to the appropriate bodies, including the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Historic Preservation Commission

Issue zoning certifications following required approvals from applicable agencies

Maintain detailed records of permits, applications, certifications, and any special conditions

Investigate zoning and property maintenance code violations and take appropriate enforcement actions, including issuing notices

Consult with architects, property owners, and contractors regarding compliance issues

Interpret and apply zoning ordinances, land use regulations, and related codes

Prepare clear, comprehensive reports outlining findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Provide accurate written and verbal zoning guidance to applicants, municipal officials, and the public

Preferred (Not Required) – Floodplain Management Experience

Candidates with experience in floodplain management are strongly preferred. Relevant experience may include:

Administering or supporting a municipal Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance

Issuing permits for development within regulated floodplain areas

Maintaining compliance with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and Community Rating System (CRS)

Managing floodplain documentation such as Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), elevation certificates, and Letters of Map Change (LOMCs)

Coordinating with federal, state, and regional agencies on floodplain-related studies and initiatives

Assisting with Community Assistance Visits (CAV) and CRS program reviews

Qualifications

Ability to analyze and interpret zoning ordinances, land use regulations, and construction codes

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in:

Preparation and review of building construction plans and specifications, or

Inspection and enforcement of zoning and/or construction regulations

Planning and Zoning Board of Adjustment Secretary

The City of Hoboken is seeking a qualified candidate for the full-time position of Board Secretary for both the City’s Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment. Under direction of the Community Development Director, serves as the Secretary to the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustments and performs complex clerical and confidential secretarial support duties related to the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustments. Examples of work include: attendance at Board meetings; preparation of agendas and application packets for distribution to Board members; recording minutes as needed; maintaining official Board records and application files; processing applications and collecting fees; coordinating responses to Open Public Records Act Requests.

Two (2) years of clerical experience involving the organization of office clerical processes and procedures or as a secretary to an executive or administrative official in a public or private organization. Prefer experience in land-use development and/or office management experience. Coursework and/or certification from Rutgers for Planning Board/Zoning Board Secretary or Land Use Administrator training desired.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
